I've been producing media professionally since 1995. My first production job was at a PBS affiliate in Indiana. I studied Telecommunications at Ball State University (where I was a recipient of a David Letterman Scholarship for Telecommunications) and completed my MFA at Northwestern University in Writing for the Screen and Stage.
In 1998, I co-founded the Atlanta-based video production company The Media Bunch, Inc., where we produced and directed documentary projects for non-profit organizations for more than a decade. I've shot on location in South Africa, Brazil, Northern Ireland, and all across the United States.
I've also written and directed award-winning narrative short films that have screened at more than 100 festivals around the world including SXSW, Cinequest, and Chicago International Film Festival, as well as been broadcast on IFC, PBS, and The Logo Channel (MTV Networks) and distributed on DVD by First Run Features and Strand Releasing.

NON-LOVE-SONG
"A well-acted, movingly eloquent film that says more about friendship and longing in its eight minutes than most feature-length stories."
--Chicagoist
"Gernand beautifully captures an attempt to talk about feelings in (a) situation where nothing more intimate than back slaps is expected."

And I directed this 2006 short documentary commissioned by Split Pillow of Chicago about our personal connection to space and objects.
